How to Build a Home Gym in a Small Apartment
You don't need a spare room to train consistently. A small apartment gym works when every item is versatile, quiet and easy to store.
1. Measure your training space
Most bodyweight and band training fits in an area about the size of a yoga mat plus arm's reach on each side. Measure that space and your doorways before buying anything.
2. Start with pulling, pushing and legs
- Pull: a doorway pull-up bar or a band anchored in a door.
- Push: push-up variations, progressing to band-resisted push-ups.
- Legs: split squats, band squats and hip hinges.
3. Think about noise and neighbours
Bands, core rollers and bodyweight work are quiet. Avoid dropping weights and use a mat to protect floors.
4. Plan storage
Pick gear that fits in a closet, under a bed or in a drawer so setup takes under a minute. Low setup friction makes it easier to train often.
5. Add recovery tools last
Once your routine is consistent, add tools such as massage balls or a mini massager to help relieve tension between sessions.
